It looks like GTA Online will be getting one final major update this summer, ahead of the highly anticipated GTA VI launch.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be well aware that the next entry in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series is on the way this November.
At the time of writing, we’ve been treated to two trailers for GTA VI; however, we can’t avoid the fact that the last trailer was released a year ago. Hopefully, GTA VI trailer three will drop sooner rather than later.
While we wait for the third GTA VI trailer, we’re still clinging on for news regarding the next iteration of GTA Online. A reason for that lack of new information regarding the online offering could be that Rockstar Games isn't quite done with the current mode just yet.
In a Rockstar Games blog post, the developer teased something big for GTA Online this summer. “There’s also plenty more to look forward to in GTA Online, including a variety of special events and celebrations, along with an exciting new update this summer,” it read.

Being optimistic, there’s a good chance that the final major event for GTA Online could be a segue into GTA VI. Before the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, GTA V’s online mode had a Los Santos treasure hunting quest that rewarded players with free DLC for the Wild West prequel.

Obviously, this is mere speculation at this time, but I think many would be shocked if the current iteration of GTA Online didn't have similar quests to build extra hype for GTA VI (not that it’s needed) and hopefully, reward players with celebratory DLC in the process. I guess only time will tell.
“Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
As of right now, the release date for GTA VI is 19 November 2026. That’s as long as it doesn't suffer another delay, which is always a possibility. It will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The PC version hasn't been announced, but we’re positive it will arrive at some point.
