GTA 6’s May 2026 release date has recently been called into question, amid fears that the game could potentially receive another delay. But how true is that really?
Grand Theft Auto 6 was announced by Rockstar Games back in December 2023, and ever since then it’s probably been the most talked about game on the internet.
New rumours are cropping up every single day, causing the conversation surrounding GTA 6 to be a hotbed of misinformation and unsubstantiated claims. And it’s the true release date of the game that seems to be at the centre of a lot of these rumours.
GTA 6 was originally announced to be coming some time in 2025, but Rockstar announced back in May that the release was being pushed back to 26th May, 2026.
Is GTA 6 being delayed to the end of 2026?
Recent rumours have suggested that GTA 6 could see another delay, pushing the game back from May 2026 to a potential October 2026 release. But how true exactly are these rumours, and should they be a cause for concern?

The rumour appears to have come from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who said at the beginning of September: “For some reason, I just cannot see GTA 6 releasing in May. All the rumblings and so on just don’t seem to suggest it [...] to me personally, I think we’re looking at October.”
That certainly would seem to suggest that Rockstar could be preparing for another delay, if Henderson’s words are to be believed.

While Henderson has been known to have an accurate track record at leaking insider information in the games industry, his accuracy has never been 100%.
He also doesn’t claim this is a fact, but rather just a gut feeling he has based on the information he currently does know. So, for the time being we can only take this with a grain of salt.
On the other hand, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is pretty confident that the company will be able to hit the announced 26th May, 2026 release date.
“Generally, when we announce a certain date, we’re able to hit that date,” Zelnick told CNBC back in May. This has been true for Rockstar’s last two major releases, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5, so it could stand to reason to think that this may also be the case with GTA 6.

It’s also worth noting that it’s probably too early for Rockstar to assess if the game needs another delay. We’re still about eight months away from the end of May 2026, and if a delay were to happen, Rockstar would make the call a bit closer to the date.
