One industry analyst believes there’s “no guarantee” that Grand Theft Auto VI will actually ship on its new release date of May 2026, and you might want to pay attention to what this fella has to say considering he was right about the game’s last delay…
Rockstar Games has a bit of a track record of delays. Basically every game they’ve released in the past 20 years has been delayed, internally or otherwise.
After all, Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed three times; twice internally, and once publicly. GTA VI seems to be a step above RDR2 (somehow), so it stands to reason that the developers are going to need even more time to deliver the game.

Well, considering Rockstar has priors, it really shouldn’t come as any surprise that Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the man who correctly stated that Grand Theft Auto VI would not make its Q4 2025 release date, thinks it’ll slip for a second time.
“One developer working on a big multiplayer game told me that they had previously delayed their release date from fall 2025 to spring 2026… Now they’re caught in a vise. Delaying their game a second time would be an expensive endeavor, ratcheting up the stakes for the eventual release,” writes Schreier.
“Then again, trying to come out alongside GTA VI could be catastrophic. But…what if they delay again and then GTA VI slips along with them? There’s no guarantee that May 2026 is a sure thing. The best hope might be to release in March, April or even early May, and hope it’s not disastrous.”
Over on Dexerto’s Twitter post detailing the news, fans aren’t too pleased to hear that the game might be delayed again.

“What's taking them so long, just release the game already. Now you're saying next year isn't even guaranteed”, commented user @lxm697.
“How do you work on a game for 10 plus years and still have delays”, replied user @AfroTv__.
To these people, I say: get a grip.
Yes, Rockstar Games has a pretty consistent track record of delaying its games. You know what else they have a very consistent track record of? Releasing absolute heaters.

If they need more time, good. I think we all know that GTA VI is going to be something special, and I’ll gladly wait until 2030 if they need the time. There are a million other incredible games you dorks can play in the meantime.
