One Grand Theft Auto VI insider (who doesn’t like being called an insider) has just revealed some insider knowledge about the game’s delay, directly from an inside source.
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news if this is the first you’re hearing about this but Rockstar Games has officially delayed Grand Theft Auto VI.
The game was originally set to drop sometime toward the end of 2025, and, although multiple sources stated that the game was likely to be delayed, most buried their head in the sand and refused to believe there was any possibility it might not make its release date.

Well, unfortunately for those folks, Grand Theft Auto VI has indeed been pushed back to May 26, 2026.
But, why? How come Rockstar Games needs half a year of extra time?
According to the same source that leaked both Lucia and Jason’s full names, prior to Rockstar Games doing so, the delay was “absolutely necessary”.
You can view the game's second trailer below.
“One thing I’ll also say is that this source made it very clear to me that a delay to 2026 was ABSOLUTELY necessary”, revealed insider @GameRoll_ in a Twitter post.

“If we had gotten GTA 6 in 2025, it would have been a significantly worse game. They began cutting a lot of cool stuff to try and make that deadline.”
Rockstar Games has a bit of a track record of delaying its games, but it’s kind of hard to hold it against them when they shoot for the moon with every new release.
I think seeing the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI really put the scope of what they’re aiming for into perspective, so if they need some extra time to cook, well then I think that’s absolutely fine.
We’d all rather play a perfect version of the game they want to make, than some half-baked idea. Take as long as you need folks. We’ll be just as excited for it next year as we are now.
