GTA IV is severely underrated in the overall conversation of Grand Theft Auto games, but this glow-up proves why it’s so good.
Now I get it, GTA V was something special which is why it’s lasted us for so many years and GTA: San Andreas often gets praised for being so ahead of its time.
GTA VI is the next game to come out and while it’ll shatter records and exceed expectations let’s not forget where the series has come from.
GTA IV deserves some love too and with this new RTX Remix mod it’s finally getting it, as the game looks gorgeous on modern hardware.

As much praise as I have for it I can see why some would struggle to return to Liberty City as visually it’s not too pretty. A lot of grey and brown in that open-world and Los Santos has a lot more going for it.
While the RTX Remix mod doesn’t do much to change the colours it does work wonders with the game’s lighting and now it has path-tracing.
Watching how the sunlight creeps through the city is remarkable as Liberty City is so densely packed together you’d be forgiven for thinking it lived in a constant shadowland.
Of course only those with a decent PC would be able to get the game running at this level so if you have hardware you should definitely look into it next time you fancy replaying the game.

There was rumour once that Rockstar Games was planning a remaster/remake of GTA IV and more rumours claimed it was cancelled before it could truly get started.
Take that with a pinch of salt obviously as there has been a lot of talk of remasters lately, like Red Dead Redemption getting one and Red Dead Redemption 2 getting a new-gen port.
When GTA VI comes out though I’d imagine the studio will be taking a short break from its next major open-world game. I’d hope so anyway as the next Grand Theft Auto title is going to be massive, and immediately jumping into an even bigger must surely take its toll on the developers.
During that potential downtime perhaps we’ll finally see some love for Rockstar’s previous games, hopefully kicking off with a remaster of GTA IV, though I’d be happy with one for Red Dead Redemption too.
