'God Of War 3' Gets A Glorious 8K Remaster

Despite already receiving a remastered edition in 2015, this fan-made mod manages to make the game look even better.

While basically all the God of War hype at the minute is surrounding the upcoming Ragnarok (which by the way, we might actually have a release date for now, even if it’s not official), we shouldn’t let ourselves forget where we came from. Well, at the very least we should specifically remember the third game in the series, because that’s what we’re having a look at today.

To be precise, we’re looking at an incredible mod for the 2010 release, which has completely transformed the game’s visuals. Although the PS3 gem did receive a remaster on PS4 in 2015, obviously visuals have evolved significantly more since then, and modder AD Massicuro on YouTube has brought the game very much up to speed, in full 8K splendour.

ICYMI... check out the gameplay reveal trailer for God of War Ragnarok below.

The mod not only reaches that juicy 8K resolution, but it notably adds ray tracing, to enhance all the lighting and reflections. In this video released to the modder’s channel, we can see the difference clearly shown in some handy comparison shots, as well as some gameplay footage to highlight just how beautifully the game runs with the new improvements.

Fans have been showing their support for the work in the comments: “Amazing! Ambient occlusion and reflections are pretty real and accurate,” commented Edward Dan. “This looks better than any other remastered version, well done,” wrote Order66.

If you want to try the mod for yourself, AD Massicuro has released it over on their Patreon page, along with a free written guide for optimising the RPCS3 emulator they used to capture the footage, so you can get the game running at its very best.

It’s a really good time for God of War fans (and soon to be fans) at the moment - the award winning 2018 release is making its way over to PC tomorrow. Despite it not actually being available yet, it’s already climbed up to the number two spot on the Steam Top Sellers chart, so you know people are ready for it. If you hadn’t had the chance to play it before on PS4, now’s your chance.
