Gears Of War meets Fallout in stunning new Warhammer shooter

It’s been a few years since we’ve had a numbered entry in the Gears of War series with the last being Gears 5 in 2019 for the Xbox One. Granted, Gears 5 has received a new-gen upgrade, but fans of the Lancer Assault Rifle-wielding COG soldiers are desperate for a new entry in the series.

Sadly, at this time, despite there being rumours of Gears 6 being in the works as well as a Halo: The Master Chief Collection-inspired bundle for Gears of War, neither Xbox Game Studios nor developers The Coalition have announced anything for the Xbox Series X|S. Thankfully, however, there is another.

The game in question is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment. Created by the team that brought us the fun co-op multiplayer shooter World War Z: Aftermath and rumoured to now be in charge of the troubled Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a third-person Gears of War-style shooter with a hint of post-apocalyptic Fallout. This might just be the Gears of War game that we’ve been waiting for. Though we could say that the Gears of War series is in some part inspired by Warhammer 40,000.

The story of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 follows Lieutenant Titus, a defender of the Imperial Worlds and is tasked with saving the lands from an invasion led by the sinister Hive Fleet Leviathan. This will likely be a brutal battle to the death, thankfully, Lieutenant Titus will have his brothers in arms by his side, Sergeant Brother Gadriel and Brother Chairon to fight the good fight.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has suffered several delays, but hopefully it hasn't hindered anyone’s excitement for the game. At the time of writing, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be released on 9 September 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
