Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis has confirmed that Tom Hardy's Venom is absolutely headed for a "collision" with Tom Holland's Spider-Man.

The Venom sequel's post-credits scene has already been the subject of much discussion, with fans wildly speculating what it means for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony's own Spider-centric movies. Up until now it's been made pretty clear that Venom exists separately from Tom Holland's Spidey, making the prospect of a crossover seem unlikely.

Of course this all changed in a big way when it emerged that Let There Be Carnage ends with Venom seemingly being transported into another universe where we see Holland's Spider-Man in a TV report. Has Venom arrived in the MCU? Has Holland been snatched from the MCU? We have more questions than answers at this point, but Serkis has assured fans that post-credits teaser was far more than a fun little Easter egg - it's setting up what's to come.

"We wanted to leave the audience knowing that these universes are going to somehow collide and we wanted to do it in such a way that it still leaves so much open and we're not timing anything," Serkis told ComicBook. "The portal is not being crossed fully. It's opening up more questions, I suppose, rather than sort of firmly saying anything. It is a tease. It's a tease, in the fullest sense of the word."

With Spider-Man: No Way Home set to bring back villains from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield films, which also exist outside of the MCU, it's looking more likely than ever that Hardy's Venom could also be making an appearance. We'll find out for sure when the next Spidey film lands in cinemas this December, but it seems pretty clear that a classic Spider-Man/Venom brawl is finally back on the cards.
