"Whose footprints are these?"

Happy belated 22nd birthday to one of the best PlayStation 1 games ever made, Metal Gear Solid. Hideo Kojima's direction on MGS lead it to be one of the best-regarded video game series ever made. We're a little late to its 22nd birthday which was a few days ago, so we're going to celebrate in style by showing you a pair of one-of-a-kind Metal Gear Solid Air Jordans.

Turns out that one of the biggest fans of the game is Jordan Vogt-Roberts, film director of 2017's Kong: Skull Island. The director loved MGS enough to get some Air Jordans commissioned in the style of the original promotional artwork.

The original artwork is in a simple inked/painted style that highlights Solid Snake. The imagery is legendary and Vogt-Roberts got Bud Sanfilippo of Stomping Ground Customs to create a piece of art dedicated to the style.

The shoes have been painted to looks almost cel shaded and cartoon-like - you can barely tell it's a 3D object. Greys and blues cover the majority of the trainers with bright red accents that really pop. The design was painted onto an Off-White edition of Nike's Air Jordans so they're particularly special. There is even lettering on the inward-facing side of the shoe, about Foxhound - a major organisation in the Metal Gear Solid Universe.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts posted pictures of the shoes with a caption that reads "Today is the North American 22nd anniversary of Hideo Kojima's PS1 masterpiece METAL GEAR SOLID. It changed me. To celebrate, I commissioned artist @bud_sanfilippo (SG Customs) to riff on Yoji Shinkawa's iconic brushstrokes & colours. Off-White Jordan x Shinkawa-San 1."

He jokingly also puts "whose dope-ass footprints are these?" as another comment, referencing that all-too recognisable line from that time Solid Snake was not very subtle with stomping his big feet through the snow on a stealth mission. At least Snake can borrow these beautiful trainers so when he's caught, he gets style points.
