CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher: Monster Slayer is out this month. Inspired by the functionality of Pokémon GO, Monster Slayer aims to transport gamers into the world of Geralt of Rivia and battle some of the terrible beasts we see in The Witcher Netflix show and game series through an AR experience.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will come out on July 21, 2021. The website for the game talks a little more about the context in which the player will be battling these monsters:

"Foul creatures roam the vast lands of the Continent - and it falls to those known as witchers to hunt them down. Set long before the time of Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is an augmented-reality exploration game that challenges you to become an elite monster hunter. See the world around you transformed into the dark fantasy realm of The Witcher, and explore once-familiar locations now infested with dangerous beasts as you start on the path as a professional monster slayer."

Here is the latest gameplay from The Witcher: Monster Slayer which shows how players will use silver swords, maps, and signs in battle...

The game will also contain some sort of story element alongside the fighting of monsters - although you can probably just battle whatever is close to you in your neighbourhood if that's all you want to do. The gameplay trailer shows that you'll be able to meet characters as well as monsters, so maybe helping them out is an important part of being a good neighbour.

The website adds that players will "experience story-driven quests that propel you through epic adventures inspired by the Witcher series, taking you deep into the heart of what it means to be an elite monster slayer."

You can pre-register for The Witcher: Monster Slayer before it launches this month, on Google Play.
