Disney has put Gina Carano forth for Emmy consideration for her work on The Mandalorian, despite a public and messy parting of ways earlier this year between both parties.
Back in February strained tensions between Disney and Carano, who played Rebel sharpshooter Cara Dune in the popular Star Wars show, came to a head. The actor was dropped from the show - and the Star Wars universe as a whole - following a controversial post on social media in which she drew parallels to being Republican in 2021 and being Jewish during the Holocaust.

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable." There are no plans to recast Cara Dune.
In the wake of this, many were somewhat surprised to learn that Disney put the actor forward for awards. As spotted by Comicbook, Disney's "For Your Consideration" Emmy marketing materials surfaced online over the weekend. The poster confirms the company is pushing for Pedro Pascal to win for best lead, while Carano is being put forth for supporting actress.
The move has attracted a lot of criticism online, although some have pointed out the Emmy push is likely part of a contractual obligation between Carano and Disney that existed before the relationship broke down. Such agreements are commonplace in TV and film, meaning it's not likely to be indictive of a thaw between the two parties.
Despite the fact Disney has made it clear it has no intention of recasting the role of Cara Dune, fans have been pretty vocal about how they'd like to see take over from Carano. Both Lucy Lawless and Don Cheadle's names have been mentioned several times over the past few months. I suspect one of those suggestions is more sincere than the other, but I could totally see either working, to be honest.
