The CW's live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot has just been dealt another major blow. Agents Of SHIELD star Chloe Bennet, who was set to play a grown-up version of the trio's leader Blossom on the show, has exited the project.

Variety reports that Bennet has been "forced" to leave as a result of "scheduling conflicts". The shows producers have confirmed they plan to find a new Blossom in autumn. Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault are still set to play Bubbles and Buttercup respectively. Scrubs star Donald Faison will play the girls' father and creator, Professor Utonium.

This news comes just months after it was announced that the original pilot was to be scrapped and completely redeveloped following feedback from the network.

"We are going back, we are reshooting, we are taking a slightly different approach tonally," Cameron told ComicBook.com of the reshoots. "It's one of those things where you don't want to get it wrong and it's very easy to get it wrong. In the same way that everyone from an outsider's perspective is like, 'How are you gonna do that?' We're figuring that out. We want to get it right for us and for the fans. We really loved what we got but we also just think we could it a little bit closer to what we have in mind. I'll keep you posted."

The unexpected Powerpuff Girls revival has been in development since last August, and will take place years after the events of the original cartoon. The titular girls have now grown into "disillusioned twenty-something-year-olds" who have come to resent the fact their childhood was wasted fighting things like giant monsters, and talking monkeys.

In the original pilot, Blossom was described as having become an anxious recluse who suffers from repressed superhero trauma. Bubbles was billed as an optimistic influencer obsessed with fame, and Buttercup was attempting to keep her head down and live a quiet life. it remains to be seen if these characterizations are reworked as part of the pilot's redevelopment.
