PlayStation Denies 'Cyberpunk 2077' Refunds, Despite CD Projekt RED's Statement

What's going on?

Multiple PlayStation users have claimed that Sony is denying their refund requests for the PlayStation 4 version of Cyberpunk 2077, despite an apparent guarantee from CD Projekt RED yesterday that console refunds were guaranteed due to the state of the game on last-gen hardware.

"We would appreciate it if you gave us a chance," CDPR wrote in a statement. "But if you are not pleased with the game on console and don't want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy. For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of Xbox or PSN respectively. For boxed refunds, please first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game. Should this not be possible, please contact us at [email protected] and we will do our best to help you."

While this all sounds like it should be straightforward enough, a thread over on ResetEra has gathered together reports from various Twitter users who are complaining of having been denied refunds from PlayStation Support. One user was told by support that they were no longer eligible for a refund because it was against Sony's policy, which states that if you've already downloaded or played the game you won't get a digital refund "unless the content is faulty".

Another was seemingly told not to ask for a refund, and to instead wait for the patches that CDPR has promised will be coming over the next few months to fix the game.

While CDPR and Sony have yet to explain exactly what's going on here, it's likely down to some good old-fashioned miscommunication. Both companies did promise refunds in response to the state of the game on PlayStation 4, so these issues are unlikely to continue for much longer. We'll keep an eye on things and update you if there's any major development.
