Mods are a pretty complex part of PC gaming. On consoles, room for modifications are pretty slim and can fully wreck the system you're on if, for example, Nintendo catches wind of you messing with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Mods on PC, however, are an entirely different kettle of fish or, uh, code. And despite many, many, mods being a safe way to have fun with the games you own - there are some people that ruin that fun with malicious intentions.

There are some mods for Cyberpunk 2077, according to ScreenRant, that are being used as a way into PCs to execute malicious code. A tweet from Cyberpunk 2077's creators, CD Projekt Red, has warned players of this issue and wants people to refrain from downloading new unknown mods while they're looking to fix a vulnerability in the game's code.

The tweet says, "If you plan to use Cyberpunk mods/custom saves on PC, use caution. We've been made aware of a vulnerability in external DLL files the game uses which can be used to execute code on PCs. Issue will be fixed ASAP. For now, please refrain from using files from unknown sources." Oof.

That's bad news for the people who have already been downloading the many mods that have been released on to databases already. If you're one of those players, it might be time to have a look at if there are any complaints from other users using the same mod and perhaps uninstall mods you're not sure about while you can.

CDPR seem to be having a little bit of a nightmare with mods for the game in the past couple weeks. Only recently did they have to block a mod that allows you to romance and have sex with Johnny Silverhand, Keanu Reeve's character.
