Update: After Nintendo's self-owning eShop post earlier, we now have confirmation from developers Ubisoft during their E3 2021 Forward showcase that Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the sequel to 2017's Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, is coming - and it'll release in 2022.

Watch the new trailer for the game, below...

Original story: I expect leaks to come from almost any company in games. Ubisoft, Square Enix, CD Projekt Red... every developer has leaks appear, here and there. But Nintendo? Nintendo's plans are normally a complete surprise to us. But today that's not the case, because the gaming giant has accidentally leaked one of its own games.

Leakers came forward over the last week to say Nintendo was going to reveal a new Rabbids collaboration, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope - and it turns out they were completely right. The Nintendo website has uploaded a store page for the game ,including screenshots and a description of the adventures you are to embark on.

The eShop listing reads: "Team up with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and their friends on a galactic journey to defeat a malevolent entity and save your Spark companions. Explore planets throughout the galaxy as you uncover mysterious secrets and compelling quests!"

Going into further details, we're told players can "build your dream team with three heroes from an eclectic roster"; "take down all new bosses, along with some familiar enemies throughout the galaxy"; and "rescue the adorable Sparks throughout the galaxy, who provide distinct powers that will help you in battle".

The listing continues: "Unleash your heroes' skills but be strategic as you dash your enemies, team jump on your allies, and hide behind covers." Just like the previous Mario + Rabbids game, this looks like being a turn-based tactical affair. Fingers crossed it's as good as that exceptional Nintendo x Ubisoft collaboration was, too.

It's unfortunate that the situation had to turn out like this for Nintendo, but Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope does look phenomenal, so there is that silver lining. The game is set to release sometime in 2022.
