New Pokémon Plush Lets You Sleep Inside Gengar's Nightmarish Mouth

New Pokémon Plush Lets You Sleep Inside Gengar's Nightmarish Mouth

Sweet dreams... I guess?

I love Pokémon. Gengar, the ghost-type monster, also happens to be one of my favourite Pokémon. You would think, then, that I would love nothing more than a giant purple Gengar plush to lie down with at night, right? Wrong. Very, very wrong.

Nothing against any of you that would choose to lie with a Gengar at night, but this latest plush from Bandai Japan is just a little bit too immersive for me. Like the Metapod sleeping bag before it, Gengar has been built to envelop owners and accompany them through a dreamless sleep.

Unfortunately, while the Metapod sleeping bag was fairly adorable and made you feel like you could emerge from the plush cocoon as a better person, this Gengar doll invites you to roll out is massive tongue, climb into its gaping jaw, and go to sleep. Maybe it's a simple, involuntary evolutionary reaction... but I don't see myself getting a wink of sleep with my head lodged in the gob of a massive purple goblin.

Unsettlingly described as the "Gengar that definitely makes you want to be licked", this 53cm-by-48 plush monstrosity comes packing a rolled-up 170cm-long polyester blanket. As I've made clear, I don't like the idea of this one bit. According to Pokémon Global News, however, pre-orders for Gengar sold out in less than two hours in Japan, so what the hell do I know?

It's unclear whether or not this ghostly companion will see a release outside of Japan, but its pre-order success probably makes it a chilling inevitability. It costs roughly $250/£180 though, so you've got to really want to stick your head inside a Gengar. Who among us can really commit to that?

Since Bandai and Nintendo are clearly moving forward with this new range of plush Pokémon that you can stick your head in, I might have a few suggestions that could join the Metapod sleeping bag and the Gengar mouth tent. How about a giant Dugtrio plush, but you crawl up from underneath the soft material and squeeze into the middle to complete the trio of Diglett? Perhaps a massive Blastoise shell that you can jump into and fill full of blankets and pillows? I'm full of ideas Nintendo, so fee free to slide into my DMs.
