Pining that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has come to an end? Dry those eyes, my friend, as Disney and Marvel have revealed that Captain America 4 is in the works with the creator of the TV show.
The report comes from The Hollywood Reporter, and it confirms that Malcolm Spellman is at the helm of the next movie. As well as coming up with the concept of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and acting as its lead writer, Spellman also has credits on several episodes of the musical drama television series Empire and was the producer of Truth Be Told and Hip Hop Uncovered. Dalan Musson, the writer of the fifth episode of the show, will collaborate with Spellman to develop the movie. At the time of writing, details are extremely light on the ground, with no director announced nor any casting announcements. It is, however, likely that this movie will be a part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This movie will feature the first Asian-American superhero in the saga of movies, so check out its trailer below.

Let's return to Captain America 4. We are able to speculate on the take that Marvel Studios will offer on the character's journey based on the ending of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Ergo, this is your warning that significant story spoilers for the finale will follow.
Sam Wilson, at long last, has accepted the mantle of Captain America and will be a heavyweight in upcoming projects relating to the Avengers. John Walker was stripped of his title as the hero in the penultimate episode, though it's clear we haven't seen the last of him. He was approached by Val, also known as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and offered an opportunity to become US Agent. Arguably, it's not a very cool name, but when you're a volatile and entitled villain who believes everything should fall into their lap, you'll take it.
In the comics, Val is a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and becomes involved with Nick Fury. Evidently, she's up to no good, and it's revealed that she is a double agent and is attached to the Russian spy ring Leviathan. Leviathan was a rival of HYDRA, and if the name is ringing a bell, it's because the group popped up in the spin-off TV series Agent Carter. It's possible that Marvel is reviving this tidbit in Captain America 4, and given that Val was meant to appear in Black Widow before scheduling complications arose, this would bridge the two movies together, in spite of the canonical time difference between them.
Alternatively, what's up with Zemo? At the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Dora Milaje captures the zany villain and informs him that he will be held in the Raft. In the comics, he doesn't twiddle his thumbs and wait for his prison sentence to expire. He creates the Thunderbolts, a group of reformed villains who will defend humanity in the same way as the Avengers do. I'm using the word "reformed" there very loosely because... yeah. I won't spoil the surprise. All in all, there are plenty of opportunities to explore new avenues in the next Captain America movie, and we're waiting with baited breath.
