Extra, extra, read all about it! Halo 3 is getting a new map and it could be a cancelled one from the ill-fated Halo Online. Wait, what year is it?

343 Industries has been as busy as a beaver improving Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and there are a cluster of digital goodies to celebrate Valentine's Day, Black History Month, and the success of Season 5. "The last few weeks have really turned up the volume regarding Halo news," said the studio in the post. "MCC kicked off Season 5, Halo esports pulled back the curtain on some of their planning, Halo Gear continued communication about upcoming books, toys, and apparel, and we got an in-depth look at the Sandbox Team's work on Halo Infinite." In the post, the team has also announced a round of flighting for The Master Chief Collection (flighting is an opportunity for a handful of players to test a beta that's still in the works).

As well as these additions that rolled out earlier in the month, 343 Industries wants to trial new features and options for The Master Chief Collection, and the next flight is expected to be live on February 18th. The changes that the team are aiming to experiment with are a custom game browser, upcoming content for Season 6, and a new map for Halo 3 from Halo Online. Yes, that's correct. A new map for a game that was released fourteen years ago.

Honestly, it's fantastic news for the Halo community and more studios should take a leaf from 343 Industries' book. The volume of effort that goes into developing and delivering a game is immense, and it's unfortunate that one day it is all left on a disc drive somewhere, gathering dust. Why shouldn't they add a new map to Halo 3? Why shouldn't they shake off the dust for veteran players? Give it some elbow grease and it'll be in shipshape.

That's probably how the board meeting for pitching The Master Chief Collection got started. The flights set for February also encompasses advanced audio options, view model customisation options, double keybindings, mouse and keyboard support for consoles, FOV slider support for Xbox One consoles, and FOV slider adjustments for Xbox Series X and S. But, the new map is what everyone is talking about. There are no hints in the text of the post to reveal which map from Halo Online is returning. However, Kotaku dug around and found that the URL for that new screenshot mentions "Waterfall." We'll keep you in the loop as and when we know more.
