'Crysis' Remaster Confirmed For All Platforms, Including Switch

Who knew your Switch could run Crysis?

The rumoured Crysis remaster has apparently been revealed a little earlier than planned. Developer Crytek had been teasing something related to the popular 2007 FPS for a few weeks now, and we finally know what that something is. The remaster is headed to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and even Nintendo Switch. Who'd have guessed all those platforms could run Crysis?

Head on over to the game's website's Cookie Policy page and you'll see a logo for something called Crysis Remastered. Whatever could that be? As if that wasn't enough evidence, clicking on said logo leads you straight to the remaster's website, and there's even some lovely new artwork to go with it. Take a look for yourself below.

"Crytek's ground-breaking, critically acclaimed first person shooter is back," reads the official description on the website. "Crysis Remastered is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch - the game's debut on a Nintendo platform."

There's no set release date for Crysis Remastered just yet, beyond a vague "coming soon". Still, I'm sure we'll learn more about the remaster very soon, given that the cat has well and truly clawed its way out of the bag. I'd imagine whoever is responsible for this particular techincal hiccup is in for a bit of a telling-off.

Still, it's not like we weren't expecting this. Crytek hasn't exactly been vague about its intentions to revive Crysis, after all. The company has spent the past few weeks teasing us all on Twitter with references to the first game. This in itself wouldn't have been that suspicious, but the fact these tweets were the first from the Crysis account since 2016 kind of rang alarm bells for everyone.

The original Crysis was a massive hit when it released back in 2007 (the game still has a respectable 91 on Metacritic). It was, at the time, praised for its immersive gameplay and techincal oomph, to the point that it was often regarded as the benchmark when testing what a computer could do. No doubt you're familiar with the "but can it run Crysis?" meme.

It remains to be seen whether or not the upcoming remaster will (comparatively) pack the same technical punch that the original did in 2007. Obviously it'll still be a stunning-looking game, but it's unclear exactly how many visual tweaks and improvements Crysis Remastered will make over the original. We'll have to wait and see.
