According to a new report, Battlefield 2042's upcoming multiplayer beta will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription. Xbox users, however, will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.
It's currently unclear as to whether this will be the case for the full game, but as per Battlefield 2042 news account @bravoINTEL, the upcoming beta test "will not require PlayStation Plus. Xbox players will require Xbox Live Gold."

Sure enough, a quick peek over on the game's open beta FAQ page confirms this. Under "Where Can I Play The Open Beta?", you'll see that the beta is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC, but that those playing in Xbox "will need to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber." It adds that "PlayStation Plus is not needed to participate in the Open Beta."
After a brief delay, EA and DICE finally confirmed earlier this week that the Battlefield 2042 open beta will kick off October 8 and run until October 9, making it a disappointingly short beta, it must be said. Those hoping to play for a little longer can get early access, which kicks off October 6, but you'll need to have either pre-ordered the game or be an EA Play member.
Battlefield 2042 was initially supposed to launch on October 22. DICE confirmed a delay earlier this month to ensure the game is polished up and ready to roll. It will now launch on all platforms November 19, which gives DICE plenty of time to address any feedback that may be shared by fans. Because you know there'll be feedback.
