DICE has explained how bots will work to improve your experience in the upcoming Battlefield 2042.. There have been some concerns over the inclusion of AI fighters, but the developer has assured fans they're all in the name of keeping the game moving at a good pace.
Over on EA's website, DICE spoke a little bit about how exactly bots will figure into Battlefield 2042. The shooter will support up to 128 players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles and PC, while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will support 64 players. With such large games on new-gen consoles, there's always the concern of filling up servers quickly. That's where the bots come into play.

"As a multiplayer-only experience, it's important for us to let you play Battlefield 2042 when and how you want," DICE said. This means bots will be used to fill servers when needed, "ensuring your matches remain full, no matter your location."

Bots also feature into co-op and solo experiences. If you want the practice, you can drop into maps alone or with a few friends against hordes of AI soldiers. As someone who is legitimately horrifying at FPS games, that sounds likely a genuinely appealing way to hone my skills without being constantly murdered by semi-pro players.
In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Battlefield 2042 designer director Daniel Berlin spoke a little bit about why Battlefield 2042 won't have a single-player campaign.
"If you look at the DNA of the studio, what we've been doing for so long, we just said you know what, we're not going to have a traditional single-player campaign this time around, but we're going to put all that emphasis and all those resources into building depth into the multiplayer. Because that is what we do best," the developer explained.

Berlin added that the game will still have something resembling a traditional narrative baked into the multiplayer, with new Specialist characters bringing new ways to play. Battlefield 2042 launches October 22 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One
