Developer Respawn Entertainment has lifted the curtain slightly on Season 3 of Apex Legends. For one it's confirmed Crypto is the next hero you'll get access to, and it's done it with a snazzy anime trailer. It's also announced a new weapon and, naturally, a new Battle Pass.
The devs aren't saying much about Crypto. On the website they simply describe him as "Cool, calm, collected Crypto deploys specialized surveillance drones to stay in the fight and out of the spotlight." Though in the trailer, which you can watch below, it appears that he has an EMP grenade to complement his drones.
His video gives away something of his motivation for joining the fight. After getting his hands on some software he should probably have left where he found it, his friend is kidnapped and, let's presume, murdered. That's what hackers get for poking their noses where they don't belong.

Also confirmed for Season 3, called Meltdown, is a new weapon: the Charge Rifle. It's described as "Carve your way across the Arena with this obliterating directed-energy weapon."
A new season series of Ranked games is kicking off, too. The results of the first ranked series have also been revealed. This is how people who have played more than five hours of ranked break down:
- 5.1% Bronze
- 40.0% Silver
- 35.7% Gold
- 16.8% Platinum
- 2.1% Diamond
- 0.2% Apex Predator
Players who managed rank in the last season will be rewarded when the new season kicks off in October. The rewards will all be cosmetic: "Badges, gun charms, and dive trails will be awarded to ranked players when the new Series kicks off."

Using the distribution above, players are going to see their ranks changed at the start of the new season. "The reset will be 1.5 Tiers down for all players."
