A 'Skyrim' Modder Has Finally Fixed The Game's Biggest Problem

Nearly ten years since releasing, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remains one of the most robust and repayable RPGs of all time. From wintry wastelands to sun dappled forests teeming with life, the world of Skyrim is damn-near perfect.

That's not to say the game is without its faults, of course. Being a Bethesda game, there are glitches aplenty. Playing as a mage has always felt far less exciting than it should, too. But the biggest problem in Skyrim? You can't pet the dog. That's a straight-up sin, if you ask me.

Whether or not you can pet a pooch obviously isn't a deal-breaker in any game, but it's definitely nice to know that if a title has a dog or two in it, you can give them a good scratch behind the ears. With the rise of the Can You Pet The Dog? Twitter account, we're seeing more and more developers bow to the pressure and grant us access to virtual tummy rubs.

While Bethesda itself has yet to release a dog-petting update for Skyrim, there's finally a mod that corrects the developer's error. Pet The Dogs - Animations does exactly what it says on the tin. Install it, and you'll get access to three different animations that let you give friendly dogs a snuggle whether standing, sitting, or lying down for a little snooze in the Solitude sun.

"I'm not an animator, these animations are not perfect," the mod's creator has stressed on Nexus Mods. They also want to make it clear these animations have been designed for third-person, and not first-person perspectives. Oh, and your hands need to be free of spells and weapons which, to be fair, would be good advice for petting a dog IRL too. Now what are you waiting for? Get it installed and go pet some pups.
