Game Of Thrones star Rory McCann has been officially cast in Star Wars Ahsoka Season 2, as Baylan Skoll.

Rory McCann is best known for his portrayal of Sandor Clegane, also known as The Hound, in Game Of Thrones, but will be swapping a longsword for a lightsaber in the next season of Ahsoka.

Dave Filoni confirmed the news at Star Wars Celebration 2025 today, and discussed how difficult it was to lose the late Ray Stevenson after he passed away in 2023.

Filoni said a lot of thought went into how Baylan’s character could continue whilst also doing right by the late star, and it was decided that a recast was the right thing to do, something Stevenson’s family approved.

Rory McCann will now step into the role, with Filoni and the rest of the cast having nothing but praise for the actor’s energy and willingness to pick up where Ray Stevenson unfortunately left off.

It definitely sounds like the right decision, as Baylan’s character was an interesting one considering he was a former Jedi Knight but not fully corrupted to the Dark Side like others have.

Baylan was also left stranded on the same planet Ahsoka and Sabine are stuck on by the end of the first season, yet it seems like it was all part of his plan as he presumably has an ulterior motive based on his behaviour.

It’ll be interesting to see how things play out, and how Rory McCann adapts to the role. Baylan and Ahsoka are also due a rematch at some point and I’m sure fans can’t wait to see that unfold.

Ahsoka Season 2 doesn’t currently have a release date, but filming is said to begin next week so we’ll hopefully catch a glimpse of it sometime next year.
