Free Official FIFA Game Drops Baffling New Trailer

I have questions...

The first trailer for the new FIFA game has dropped, and it’s quite baffling, to say the least.

Whether you’re a football fan or not, there’s probably a very good chance that you’ve heard of the FIFA video game series from Electronic Arts. After all, it’s been a big seller since its inception in 1993 with FIFA International Soccer.

Literally every year, a new FIFA game has been released, that was until 2022 with FIFA 23. The reason being, is that EA announced that it could still make the popular video game series without having to pay the world’s football governing body (FIFA) millions of pounds just to use its branding.

EA Sports FC Is FIFA but Without the OG Name

As a result of EA ditching FIFA, in 2023, we got the first game without that branding, EA Sports FC 24.

In truth, other than graphical and performance improvements, as well as some new modes, it’s pretty much the same game, and it proved that EA no longer needs the FIFA branding, with it continually being a top-seller.

FIFA’s First Game Since Being Dropped by EA Revealed

The new FIFA was first announced in December 2025, and while we never actually got to see the game, it was revealed that it would be a free mobile game on the Netflix app. Well, we now have a trailer, and yeah, it’s something.

While the trailer for the game we now know is called FIFA Heroes, it features no gameplay; its animated trailer has a plethora of football stars such as Diego Maradona, Emiliano Martínez, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane and more.

Developed by ENVER, FIFA Heroes is a very different offering from what we’re used to from the series. It’s an arcade 5v5 game, perhaps taking inspiration from FIFA Street, and the cartoon football characters will have over-the-top power-ups. Oh, and the game includes Thor, for some reason.

However, perhaps the oddest thing, at least from my perspective, is that despite being released this year, the England football kit seen in the reveal trailer is from the 2022/23 season. Like, seriously, what’s going on with that?

Will FIFA Heroes Be a Success?

It’s too early to tell. That being said, if a mobile game gets a quality marketing campaign, it has every chance of being a financial success, regardless of the quality. Hopefully, we’ll get a much better indication of its chances when a proper FIFA Heroes gameplay trailer is released.

FIFA Heroes will release on compatible iOS and Android devices on 28 April 2026, and will be exclusive to the Netflix mobile app.
