Fortnite OG has become a bit of a staple for players who grew up playing the earlier eras of the immensely popular battle royale, as the mode brings back the original Chapter 1 map, loot and mechanics to please the ever nostalgic gamer.

Though it is currently unplayable in the game since the start of the new chapter for its main strand, it returns later this week with Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 7, and it's set to bring some major changes that should please longtime players.

Namely, the latest update is set to bring back winter themed changes for the map, alongside the return of some of the more iconic skins in the wider selection, as well as a host of new items to use.

And it's the latter that's really creating a buzz amongst the game's extensive community, as one of the rarest and most overpowered weapons in the game's history makes a long awaited return.

The Infinity Blade is Back in Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 7

As first reported by PCGamesN, the Infinity Blade is coming back and it's safe to say that fans of the game are as excited about its upcoming return as they are terrified of its potential.

For those who are unfamiliar with everything it has going on, the Infinity Blade was the first truly Mythic item in the history of Fortnite. It was essentially available to those who were willing to pull it out of the ground a la King Arthur, though in exchange you'd need to drop all of your other items. Whilst this might sound like a bit of a bum deal on the face of it, it's difficult to overstate just how powerful the weapon is.

It obviously dealt immense amounts of damage to enemy players, but it also provided some nice buffs to the player carrying it, including 200 Health and Shields, as well as 50 Health back every time you kill someone.

The main source of the controversy around the weapon came from the competitive side of the game, where players who managed to pick it up could quickly carve their way to a win.

After all that hubbub, the blade was vaulted after just three days, seemingly never to return to the main game. That's why the OG mode is such a great mode for players, as it allows Epic Games to pull out some pretty crazy experiments, without too much fear about balance.

Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 7 will be available from 11 December, though the blade won't be added right away, with Epic Games promising that it will come "later in the season".
