Fallout meets Valheim in new open-world RPG

This upcoming sequel looks like it's taking a few notes out of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 playbook as well

Polish developer The Farm 51 just announced a sequel to their 2021 survival horror game Chernobylite, and the end result looks somewhere between Valheim and Fallout 4.

After it was initially announced on IGN yesterday, Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone was revealed for all to see after its Steam page went live today.

The listing on Steam describes the game as “a post-apo action RPG game, mixing free exploration of huge and extremely realistic open world, challenging combat, unique crafting, team and base management with non-linear storytelling.”

As revealed in the trailer for the game, developer The Farm 51 is planning to bring it to both PC and consoles. Exactly which consoles it’s coming to is currently unknown, but it’s probably safe to assume that they at least meant it’s coming to PlayStation and Xbox systems.

The developer is probably best known for their work on the kinda brilliant, if somewhat silly, Painkiller Hell & Damnation and the decidedly less brilliant, and unfortunately less silly, free-to-play tactical online shooter World War 3.

The original Chernobylite was a genuinely interesting, if ever so slightly rough, game that garnered a mixed to positive reception. That’s basically a nice way of saying that it’s a certified seven outta 10 kinda game.

But, personally, a seven out of 10 kind of game is the perfect sort of title to receive a sequel.

A game with cool, interesting ideas but a lacklustre execution is the type of title I want to see followed up on, as it’ll give the developers the chance to focus on what worked right in the original and iron out the issues that didn’t.

There currently isn’t any news on an exact release date, but they have teased that it’ll drop sometime in 2025. Hopefully not too close to that other big game that’s planning to release next year, for their sake…
