The exact date of Rockstar Games’ upcoming title Grand Theft Auto VI has appeared online, but temper your expectations before reading further.

As revealed in this Reddit post, one user noticed that GTA VI’s release date had been “leaked” on IMDb.

The date specifies that the game will release on 27 October next year, which does fall in line with what Rockstar Games has teased thus far.

As you can confirm by going to the IMDb page for the game yourself, the date is still there.

ICYMI: Take a look at GTA VI's trailer below.

This is the point where I tell you to collectively hold your horses though, as unfortunately we’re still very much in rumour territory with this one.

The Internet Movie Database, which does cover media outside of films contrary to its name, is an online database that essentially serves as a Wikipedia for movies.

Unlike Wikipedia however, IMDb isn’t as stringent with its sources. Taking one look at the trivia section for any popular movie or TV show is proof enough of this, as people regularly just slap whatever made up rubbish that they want onto the site.

As all you need is a IMDb account to edit a page, basically anyone can do this.

Considering this is basically the only source, if you can even call it a source, for GTA VI’s release date, I think it’s more than fair to not take this one at face value.

Although this “leak” did fool more than a few people online, including in the thread it was initially posted in, a lot of commenters have rightly pointed out that this is likely rubbish.

“I doubt they have a date yet internally,” one commenter noted. “My guess would be September to maximise holiday sales.”

“Nothing is real until it's confirmed from Rockstar/Take Two. And for sure not over a year beforehand,” replied another.

So, yeah, unfortunately we still can’t confirm anything as of it yet. The 27 October is around the date we would assume it’s going to drop, even though September does make a lot more sense, but don’t start getting hype just yet.

Of course, who knows? Maybe this is real. I also heard Ryan Gosling is voicing the games’ antagonist as well. My source for that one is my mate Jimmy from down the pub. His dad works at Rockstar Games.
