Some Fallout fans were left disappointed by the trailer shown during the Xbox Showcase as part of Summer Games Fest, and took to social media and message boards to vent their frustrations.

While we didn’t get a new Fallout game, or a look at season two of the Fallout TV show, Xbox did show off a trailer for the new update to Fallout 76, which brings fishing to the MMORPG.

The update actually came out last week, but this was Microsoft ensuring that players know the update is here, and potentially entice new players who love a spot of fishing.

This didn’t go over well with everyone, as seen on Reddit, where many fans of the franchise felt disappointed by the minimal care shown to the series.

It was called “Absolutely pathetic” by one user who since deleted the comment, while another said “this game should have been dead a long time ago.”

Others were quick to defend the game, with one Redditor saying, “the game is in a decent state nowadays.”

Broly_ noted, “An 8-month dev cycle for an update to just fish (which people are already bored with) and grind on another lazy, bare-bones scoreboard.”

It seems clear to some that this update has missed the mark, and it didn’t really need a spot in the Xbox showcase.

Fallout 76 is the black sheep of the Fallout family, having launched in a pretty bad state, which let a lot of fans down.

It appears that the sour taste they experienced hasn’t faded, and many are still angry that Bethesda is dedicating time to the game being enjoyed by millions of others.

“How dare people enjoy a game,” said thymeandchange sarcastically.

Another Redditor explained, “The game is genuinely good now and free from the technical difficulties the game originally suffered from. The map is one of the best open world maps you will find in any game ever made.”
