Fallout 'sneakily' releases free downloads you can claim now

Red alert: Bethesda just added free dogs and cats to Fallout

Bethesda has just released the best, 10/10, most incredible piece of downloadable content in Fallout’s history. Better than Fallout 3’s Point Lookout, better than Fallout 4’s Far Harbour, and, yes, even better than Fallout: New Vegas’ Old World Blues.

This is not an exaggeration. This is not a drill. Folks, it is my great pleasure to inform you all that Fallout 76 now has cats and dogs. Maybe 2024 wasn’t so bad after all, huh?

In case you missed this earth-shattering news, Bethesda released the “Gleaming Depths” update for Fallout 76 on Tuesday night.

According to the developers, Gleaming Depths “represents the largest change to Fallout 76 endgame experience yet” and comes with a whole heap of new additions.

You got new weapons, armour, player titles, perk cards, a whole new 19th season of rewards to earn, a bunch of content centred around the return of the Enclave, and even a massive extension to Fallout 76’s endgame - but who cares about all that when the update also added PETS!

Are you excited to play as a ghoul next year?

“Say hello to two new fuzzy friends who will help bring your C.A.M.P. to life!” Bethesda stated in the Gleaming Depths press release, “We’re excited to bring C.A.M.P. Pets to Fallout 76 starting with a Cat and a Dog. And yes, you can pet them.”

Oh but, that’s not even the best part. The press release also states that there’s a bunch of ways your furry friends will interact with you when you’re at your home base.

“Once placed, the animals will follow you around your C.A.M.P., idly walk, sit in their furniture and use their own cat scratcher or dig in their doggy bone mound (aka dirt pile).”

Even better still, over in a thread on the r/Fallout subreddit some users even noticed that Bethesda just straight up added some free skins for your cute pets to the Season 19 rewards.

Unfortunately, there is a little bit of bad news… as the best possible pet actually costs real money.

“Yeah but the one in the shop looks like the goodest boy ever,” commented user Kaiza34, “(Literally just Dogmeat)”.

I just hope they add Churchill the English Bulldog from Fallout: London…
