Fallout: New Vegas fans burned by new 'teaser'

They asked me how well I understood theoretical Tweets. I said I had a theoretical degree in Tweeting. They said welcome aboard.

We just got some exciting news regarding the second season of Amazon’s upcoming Fallout TV show, from lead actress Ella Purnell hersel– oh, wait a second, I’m just receiving an update from Twitter’s Community Notes team that this is baloney.

Alright, let’s work backwards a little. User @BethesdaBeyond on Twitter, who I should add is not actually affiliated with Bethesda, posted this a few days ago.

“Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy in the Fallout TV show, has been told to play Fallout: New Vegas to prepare for Season 2,” read @BethesdaBeyond’s Tweet.

One of the images in the Tweet is a screencap of this post over on Bluesky, from user @realellapurnell.

“I've been told to play Fallout New Vegas,” reads @realellapurnell’s post, “Since I do love some source materials and this may or may not be prep for a certain job I may or may not be on soon.”

Now, you can probably tell from the Community Note on @BethesdaBeyond’s Tweet that this isn’t actually the real Ella Purnell.

Take a look at the time we played snog, marry, irradiate with the cast of Fallout below.

Purnell has two social media accounts that I can verify; an Instagram and a Threads account. No Bluesky account mentioned anywhere, unfortunately.

It seems a lot of folks did fall for the bit however, based on a lot of the hyped comments on @BethesdaBeyond’s post. Before you judge them too harshly though, it’s not exactly out of the realm of possibility.

Ella Purnell has spoken at length about how she played Fallout 4 in preparation for her role in the Fallout TV show and (spoilers incoming for the season one finale of said TV show) there was that cliffhanger at the end of the episode 'The Beginning'.

In case you need a refresher, in Fallout’s season finale, Hank MacLean (Lucy’s father) was seen wandering up to New Vegas (the titular setting of Fallout: New Vegas) before the credits rolled.

Watch out for any Kyle MacLachlan impersonators on Bluesky waffling on about which Fallout: New Vegas ending they chose, folks.
