Fallout fans slam Bethesda over 'disappointing' surprise release

To celebrate the upcoming Amazon Prime Fallout series, Bethesda are releasing a surprise anthology for fans. However, not everybody is happy with what is to offer.

Set to air on 12 April, the Amazon Prime Fallout series will give fans their first look at the much-loved Bethesda franchise in all its live-action glory. To celebrate the upcoming show, Bethesda themselves have decided to release the Fallout S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Anthology which includes seven of the Fallout titles and is set for release on 11 April.

Check out the Fallout: New Vegas trailer below!

Not only will the anthology include Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, Fallout: New Vegas – Ultimate Edition, Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition and Fallout 76, the codes for each title will be found on S.P.E.C.I.A.L. cards included in the pack. Inspired by the perk cards found in Fallout 76, each anthology includes seven collectible cards stored “in the core of a miniature bomb”.

Although this would be an excellent gift for those who have yet to experience the Fallout series, some more die-hard fans are disappointed in this surprise reveal. More specifically, many had hoped for news of a Fallout 3 remaster which has been rumoured for many years.

“I'll just never understand why they're willing to milk Skyrim to absolute death but won't do anything with all the Fallout IP that could actually use it,” wrote one user on r/Fallout. “I can understand some hesitancy with the original 2 Fallouts due to complications with licensing and also converting the game to the modern Fallout formula, but surely it would be extremely easy to re-do 3 with modern visuals and mechanics.”

Another fan shared their thoughts on what Bethesda could have done instead. “Wouldn't it be better to just sell the mini nuke and cards separately as merch instead of bundling them with a digital only re-release pack?” They wrote. “They don't seem like remasters either, just re-releases without a physical disk. Seems like a weird way to artificially jack up the price for just one collectible pack and limit the amount of people that would like to have one. Shame cos' the nuke does look pretty cool.”

This is not the first Fallout related anthology but let us hope it is the last as fans are crying out for what they really want.
