Now Fallout 76 is free players are giving it a chance - and loving it

Fallout 76 is one of January's free PS Plus Essential tier games, and it's been going down surprisingly well.

January’s free Essential tier PS Plus games are now available, and players are genuinely enjoying one of the more surprising picks.

For PS Plus subscribers, 2023 has begun with a bang. The first freebies of the year are already available, and although many were initially the most excited about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s inclusion (which has been handed out in perfect time to catch up with the game’s events before Jedi: Survivor releases in March), as ComicBook reports, some are now singing the praises of another of the month’s offerings - Fallout 76.

Check out the trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor below.

Fallout 76’s launch sure was something. The 2018 title didn’t exactly go down well - on release, it was full of bugs and glitches, and it quickly gained a reputation for simply being a bad game. That obviously wasn’t the end of it, though - Bethesda rushed to get fixes out, and still continues to add new updates and events to the game even today. It’s certainly not the same game it once was, which players are now discovering.

“Based on reviews I wasn't expecting much from Fallout 76. But now I’m hooked, it's like Fallout 5! Looks great, plays great, excellent voice cast so far and interesting goals on quests. I don't get the hate at all. I'm just starting out but so far it's an easy 8/10,” one Reddit user wrote. “I think it's really solid month. Sure[,] 76 had a terrible launch but they have made really good improvements rather than just abandoning it,” added another.

If you avoided Fallout 76 at launch, there’s certainly no reason not to try it now if you’re a PS Plus subscriber. Unless you want to avoid getting sucked into an online game, of course. That backlog isn’t going to beat itself.
