Fallout 5 has been teased, and it’s made fans wonder just how long it’ll take until we can actually play it.
With the success of the television adaptation from Amazon, it’s created a thirst for new Fallout games.
We had our last major game back in 2018 with Fallout 76, but it’s been a decade since the last fully single-player Fallout RPG, and fans are wanting a new one.
According to a new report by Jez Corden from WindowsCentral on the Xbox Two podcast, Fallout 5 has been “fully greenlit”. However, it’s unknown when it’ll move into development, or even which developer will work on it.

Although it’s reasonable to believe that Bethesda Game Studios will be working on Fallout 5, Corden believes that the studio is currently busy with Starfield DLC and The Elder Scrolls 6. So, it’s possible that another studio could be contracted to work on the sequel.
This report comes at the time ZeniMax Online’s new MMO, codenamed Blackbird, was cancelled amidst the recent layoffs at Microsoft. Resources are said to be diverted to Fallout 5, which was seen by the higher-ups as a “surefire win”.
Corden said: “From what I heard, it was a case of 'Do we want to sink a ton of money into getting this [project Blackbird] to a point where it can compete with the established players in the market, or do we want to allocate that investment towards making Fallout 5?'”
One fan on the Fallout Reddit page posted: “A decade after Fallout 4 released, and they're only just thinking about starting to make a sequel. Damn.”

“Both Fallout and Elder Scrolls are more than big enough to warrant full development teams of their own,” wrote another fan. “And not queueing up blockbuster titles and waiting 10-15 years for a sequel.”
“Maybe this is a bit entitled to say, but I feel like the amount of development time between sequels has just swelled to ridiculous levels,” wrote another. “We used to think waiting 3 or 4 years was a long wait, and now for games like this, we are looking at around 15+ year gaps, with this likely to widen even further if the industry doesn't address it.”
It seems like we might still be waiting a while for the next Fallout game to release.
Hopefully fans can keep themselves occupied with the older games in the series for the time being, especially with all the different mods available.
