Fallout 4 player discovers a horrifying and ominous secret during the prologue that has been taunting us for years.

Fallout 4 has a huge post-apocalyptic world filled with all sorts of horrors and delights, so it makes sense that some of its secrets have taken so long to be discovered, such as one that is today’s topic of the popular Bethesda RPG on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

In more ways than one, Bethesda’s Fallout 4 probably has the most intense opening moments in this long-running series, and that’s saying something. To say that it begins with a bang and heartbreak would be an understatement.

However, a Fallout 4 fan has discovered that players have been warned about the pending doom at the very beginning of the game in the main character's Sanctuary Hills family home.

“The clock in the Sanctuary Hills home is actually a Doomsday Clock showing five minutes to midnight,” revealed the eagle-eyed Redditor dreimanis, referring to the pocket watch seen in the screenshot.

The real Doomsday Clock is a symbol used by humanity to indicate how close we are to self-destruction. Depending on the threat at hand, such as nuclear annihilation, the minute hand will move closer or further away from midnight depending on how near a threat is.

Despite not being an exact time or moment of the day mentioned by dreimanis, as pointed out by fellow Reddit users, it’s still a cool attention to detail implemented by the developers at Bethesda Game Studios.

“Well, I'm sure it’s not a literal Doomsday Clock, but I think the symbolism is still there,” replied Lydialmao22.

“Oh, that is such a good detail,” said The_Terry_Braddock.

“What a great detail that probably a lot of us skipped throughout the years,” exclaimed SuccessfulStore2116.

Fallout 4 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also currently available with an Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium subscription at no extra cost.
