Fallout 4’s new-gen update whilst being very much welcomed, hasn’t landed without its issues.

It’s no secret that Fallout, as a franchise, is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance following the release of Prime Video’s TV adaptation.

In the days following the show’s premiere, Fallout games welcomed in over 5 million players with the vast majority of these opting to either return to or sample for the first time Fallout 4.

Timing perfectly with this renewed sense of interest was the launch of the game’s new-gen update.

Admittedly, it wasn’t the smoothest rollout but then would it be a Bethesda update without a few classic bugs?

The update did prove to be slightly more divisive with the PC community given the fact that it broke several major mods.

The good news is that a new patch has now landed ironing out some of the new-gen update’s most glaring issues.

Strangely though, the update includes one feature Bethesda doesn’t want you to use.

Take a look at our guide for those looking to jump into the Fallout franchise.

On Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, users can now choose a Frame Rate Target of 30, 40, or 60 with the added note that, “To select 40, your display must be able to support 120hz.”

Players can also now choose between Visuals and Performance mode. Performance mode is recommended for those targeting 60fps.

Despite offering this choice though, the patch notes read: “Thanks to your feedback, we’ve been able to implement the ability to control your graphic fidelity and performance. We highly recommend you run with the default settings but now you can change your options to better fit your playstyle and display.”

It’s a strange move to add customisation options only to recommend that you not use them but hey, break the rules. Go wild.

You can find the full list of bug fixes in the game’s patch notes - and the update is available to download now.
