Fallout 4 players unearth grisly discovery that reveals a cancelled plotline

A bloody but intriguing scene

A Fallout player has stumbled across gory remnants of a long since cancelled subplot.

Fallout 4 is filled with many unusual secrets, some of which are more haunting than others.

While this latest find isn’t creepy by any means, its bloody visuals left one player curious about its origins. This, in turn, led to another interesting discovery.

Is everyone else as excited as we are to play as a ghoul in Fallout 76?

On r/fo4, Redditor IMASHIRT shared a screenshot of a mutated and mangled shark, asking, “Swam out to the shipwrecks south of Spectacle Island and found these shark-like creatures? Anyone know their origin?”

Some were quick to point out that the “shark” is actually a dolphin, as if it matters.

Others, thankfully, had some interesting lore to bestow on the OP.

“They're all that remains of a dropped vault plotline called ‘20,000 leagues under the sea’,” Ok_Ear_3849 detailed. “The sole survivor was supposed to find an underwater vault with some sort of mutated Kraken-like monster running the show.”

Conceivably, part of Fallout’s charm is being able to find and explore all the different vaults, as well as uncovering their (often bizarre) history.

Knowing that such a plotline was cut has fans once again mourning what could have been.

“I feel like if Bethesda gave the devs more time, Fallout 4 would've been 100 times better. Still love it but I feel like every week I'm finding out about another cool concept that got cut,” commented SwagaliciousTHC.

Sad though is it, there is some light at the end of this tunnel.

There’s a mod of this culled content, available via NexusMods and Bethesda’s mod page, that’s compatible with “all platforms”; a rare find indeed.

If you still hear the call of the sea, there’s a hidden underwater area easily missed just waiting for you to dive into its depths.

We hope by the time Fallout 5 is here, Bethesda refrains from cutting such intriguing content like the grisly discovery IMASHIRT made.
