Fallout 2, one of the most popular entries in the post-apocalyptic RPG series is getting a fully open-world remake.

Long before it was a Bethesda-owned property that began with 2008’s brilliant Fallout 3 which has a huge and immersive open world, the series once had a turned-based formula with a pseudo-isometric perspective.

Perhaps one of the most beloved entries prior to the Bethesda era is Fallout 2 released on PC in 1998. As reflected by its Metacritic scores which garnered 86 from critics and 9.1 from users, Fallout 2 is the fourth highest-scoring game in the series.

“Fallout 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed game that took RPG'ing out of the dungeons and into a dynamic, apocalyptic retro-future. It's been 80 long years since your ancestors trod across the wastelands,” reads the synopsis of the game.

Don't get us wrong, Fallout 2 is still a fantastic game to play today, even after all these years yet we can't help but wonder, what would this RPG be like remade in the modern era as an open-world game?

Well, that’s exactly what a collective group of indie developers known as Project Arroyo sets out to achieve.

Developed using Fallout 4’s Creation engine, in a gameplay comparison video shared on YouTube, the impressive faithfully recreated Fallout 2 looks like it could be a joy to play for both new and returning fans.

Gamers on YouTube have piled on the praise for the fan-made Fallout 2 remake with comments such as “Incredible. Fallout 2 is my all-time favourite entry in the franchise and the love you guys are putting into it is beyond words. Please don't stop,” said kitsunevoices.

“The fact that I started playing the original game recently makes me want to play this masterpiece already. Good work guys,” commented a joyful memeckiy.

“You have no clue how excited I am at seeing Project Arroyo coming to fruition. I can hardly walk in a straight line, I'm so excited,” exclaimed MostlyPeacefulWACO.

Sadly, it must be stated that Fallout 2: Project Arroyo is not coming to consoles as this is exclusive to PC.
