Elder Scrolls: Oblivion trick gives your magic weapons permanent charge

This exploit seems unique to the remastered version of Oblivion

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered players have discovered a brand new way to make your characters even more broken, and it seems like the method to pull this off is unique to the remastered version of the game.

One of the best things about Oblivion Remastered is that Bethesda has gone out of its way to keep the majority of its bugs and glitches intact, including the ones that allow you to become ridiculously strong in the early game.

However, they did remove one pretty major exploit: the scroll dupe bug.

If you’ve played Oblivion before, you probably know this one already, but it essentially allowed you to duplicate items in your inventory. Its removal saddened a lot of players… until they found out that there’s actually a new version of the same exploit in the game.

You can view the game in action below.

This exploit actually also facilitated another exploit that allowed you to permanently enchant weapons and buff your character. As one user over on the r/oblivion subreddit explains, the method for pulling it off is actually pretty straightforward.

“Rejoice, I can confirm that permanent enchantments still works. I just tested out the jail method with the Crown of Lindai and it works perfectly,” commented user Pish-Sama.

“I also saw a video where they used the new item dupe method to do it with non-quest items, though they noted it is more volatile than in the original Oblivion. Have not tested the latter method.”

However, if you’re more of a visual learner, here’s a video from the YouTuber Game with Dave that I think explains how to do it in the simplest way possible.

I almost have to wonder if Bethesda intentionally introduced a new version of this exploit on purpose, because there was some kind of technical reason they had to remove the original one.

Either way, I’m glad it’s still in the game. It really wouldn’t be the same if I couldn’t replicate 999 Great Welkynd Stones and nip down to the local merchant.
