Skyrim released all the way back in 2011. Let that sink in for a second.
Even though Todd Howard intimated that the upcoming sixth release may get shadow dropped, that isn’t happening any time soon, so we’ve sort of moved on from waiting for the next one and we’re looking to scratch that itch elsewhere.
Fortunately, Steam is at hand to solve all of our potential woes and there’s an upcoming game that looks like it has all the ingredients to make a really special experience for the player when it does release.
Drakantos is a free to play MMORPG that comes complete with more than 20 unique heroes for us to use. With some Stardew Valley aesthetic vibes thrown in, it could be one of the more exciting releases on our radar right now.
Drakantos Is A Hugely Ambitious Project

Drakantos is one of those projects that really looks like it’s swinging for the fences to bring as much to players as possible. Any MMO is always a really risky pursuit on the part of the developer, thanks to the associated costs with running the game, so it has to stand out to make it worthwhile.
As part of that, the first thing that stands out about Drakantos is the highly detailed pixel art style that really does instantly take us back a couple of decades. Within that aesthetic framework, there’s some pretty ambitious mechanical systems at play that would be at home in even a big budget MMO.
The game removes itself from the traditional class restrictions that so many other titles go down. Instead, players are able to choose from one of twenty individual heroes, each of which comes with their own unique mechanics, personality types and even role in the story, something no other MMO has done (to my knowledge).
You’ll still be doing all the normal stuff like levelling your character and conquering dungeons filled with nefarious beasts, as well as collecting rare loot and gear for your toon. The developer has also promised to add special twists to the missions and activities you do as the game progresses, so the experience remains fresh.

The only sad thing at this point is that Drakantos doesn’t have anything in the way of a release date just yet, but the gameplay footage that has been made public does look very polished, so we live in hope that it will be relatively soon.
