The release of The Elder Scrolls VI is easily one of the most highly anticipated in video game, only really sitting behind the behemoth of GTA VI in terms of raw hype.
Bethesda took the bold state of announcing the game all the way back at E3 2018, when that show still existed, and the game had clearly only just entered development in earnest.
Since then, it has been basically silent on the part of the developer, with no information about what the game may contain or when we might get to actually play the thing.
Now, with the second season of Fallout on Prime Video set to premiere this month, Todd Howard has been taking questions from the media, and he has narrowed the release window down, if only a little.

The Elder Scrolls VI Will Release After GTA 6
When asked by Dutch media outlet Power Unlimited whether GTA 6 or The Elder Scrolls VI would release first, he responded by saying he had his "fingers crossed" for the former, meaning we likely aren't getting the latter until at least 2027.
The tentative nature of the response is undoubtedly a reference to the delays GTA VI has suffered so far, so if you really wanted to have some copium, Howard could be saying that it's currently quite close and another delay to GTA VI could push it behind Elder Scrolls.
In a Reddit post sharing the news, many fans reacted with a lack of surprise, combined with growing impatience.
"I mean this was obvious, i am not expecting TES VI before 2027 and to be fair, 2028 is probably the year it will be released," one comment read.
"Pretty obvious that 2026 probably isn’t in the cards by now but if any of you guys are still huffing the copium it is vague enough that you could reasonably twist it to mean something different. I wanted 2026 too but this seems like the final nail in the coffin," another added.
"The way he phrased it makes it seem like GTA VI and Elder Scrolls VI are on a similar timeline. He said "fingers crossed for GTA VI" which does not seem like something you'd say if you know Elder Scrolls VI isn't planned for another 3 or 4 years," a third theorised.
Whatever the real case may be, we definitely have a while longer to wait before we get our hands on any of these games.
Fingers crossed 2026 lets us play at least one of them.
