Elden Ring Nightreign has been given a release date, and we’ll be facing the Night Lord much sooner than we thought.

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware announced the game’s release date as 30 May, alongside a new preorder trailer for the game.

See that incredible trailer for yourself below, it looks spectacular

It’s great timing too as Elden Ring Nightreign will soon be kicking off the official network tests, the first of which is this Friday, 14 February, a real Valentine’s treat.

Check your email inbox if you applied to take part in this test, as codes have already begun distribution.

Elden Ring Nightreign is quite the departure from FromSoftware's usual style, basically being a spin-off of Elden Ring rather than a successor or sequel.

FromSoftware is obviously known and cherished for introducing the soulsborne game genre to the world, but the new Elden Ring game is equal parts multiplayer roguelike as well.

Players can either go in alone or team up to two other players to explore, take down enemies and clash with menacing new bosses, including some returning favourites from the Dark Souls games for some reason.

After spending a few in-game days surviving, you'll go up against the Night Lord, before the world resets and you start over again, collecting, fighting and thriving as the toughest tarnished around.

It looks like good fun, and I'll be interested to see what myself and other fans make of it once we've had a go via the network tests.

The most intriguing part though is how it'll factor into the Dark Souls games, as FromSoftware has always endeavoured to keep its worlds seperated yet that was definitely the Nameless King from Dark Souls III in the first trailer.

It's going to be really exciting to see why these bosses are making a comeback, and what it could mean for the world of Elden Ring moving forward.
