Elden Ring DLC Announcement Promises “New High Difficulty Mode”

As if things weren't hard enough already

If there's one thing that FromSoftware games are known for, it's the harsh difficulty that tests even the sturdiest players. The original Elden Ring and its subsequent DLC are probably the most notorious examples of this, as players took down the collective might of Melania, Starscourge Radahn et. Al on their way to closing out the game's epic story.

That game was followed up by the developers first attempt at a multiplayer-focused roguelike release in the form of Nightreign, which did a great job carrying through the momentum of the original. Now, that game is getting some brand new content, and it's sure to test your limits like never before.

In a post on the official Elden Ring website, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco confirmed the upcoming release of Deep of Night, a high difficulty challenge mode for the most skilled and dedicated players to conquer.

The basic premise remains the same, but Deep of Night comes with several affixes that should make the experience considerably more bruising. Firstly, all enemies are stronger than usual, and you won't be able to specify your target Nightlord. There are also special items known as Depth Relics and weapons with additional effects, some of which are decidedly detrimental.

The new Expedition mode is divided into five Depths or layers, with the final two of those featuring what the developer describes as "endless battles".

For obvious reasons, the difficulty increases the further you descend, with the greatest challenge to be found in Depths 4 and 5.

There are no additional charges or downloads associated with the upcoming release, so if you're already plucking away on Nightreign, then you shouldn't have to do much else to get involved.

The free update is set to release on 12 September, though the developer is yet to confirm timings.
