Elden Ring DLC will require you to beat the base game's toughest bosses first

Mohg and Radahn stand between you and the Land of Shadows

Yet to jump on the Elden Ring bandwagon but are itching to do so because of just how incredible the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree expansion looks? You’re going to want to heed this warning.

The release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is almost upon us. On 21 June, we’ll journey away from the Lands Between to the mysterious Land of Shadow.

The Land of Shadow is said to be larger than the base game’s Limgrave and, naturally, it’ll be filled with new formidable foes.

Judging by the trailer, Miquella is set to play a pretty pivotal role this time around, and it looks as if we’ll be facing off against the new ‘big bad’ Messmer.

As an extra tidbit, FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki has already teased that Messmer’s throne is the same one from the palace where you fight Morgott.

This will likely mean nothing to you if you’re yet to actually play Elden Ring. If you fall into that category then I have an important warning to impart as Shadow of the Erdtree won’t be accessible until you’ve beaten several of the base game’s toughest bosses.

Take a look at Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s trailer below.

Shadow of the Erdtree is not an expansion for the untrained Tarnished. You’re going to have to prove yourself if you want to enter the Land of Shadow to try and take down Messmer the Impaler.

As reported by Frontline Gaming Japan (via Rock, Paper, Shotgun), Miyazaki has opened up somewhat about the Land of Shadows, unveiling that this is a veiled primordial realm existing parallel to the Lands Between.

If you want to journey to this location, you’re going to have to tick Starscourge Radahn and Mohg Lord of Blood off your hit list.

Let’s start off with Starscourge Radahn. This is the enormous fella on the very tiny horse. He’s pretty nifty with his spears so you’re going to want to stay nimble if you’re to best this colossal titan.

As for Mohg, I’m going to describe him as a many-horned goat man. This boss specialises in bloodflame and bleed effects making him a colossal pain in the ass to deal with.

It’s actually Mohg that abducted Miquella so I’m imagining he’ll somehow tie into the plot of the DLC.

You’re going to want to be levelled between 70 and 100 to take on these two foes so don’t rush into them in order to reach the DLC.

Elden Ring offers a journey that is by no means easy, but it’s one well worth taking.
