Dyson Reveal Bizarre New Headphones That Have A Respirator

Dyson have just revealed their new Dyson Zone air-purifying headphones, which look very odd, but actually have a really great purpose.

What do you think is the most important feature to have when it comes to a pair of headphones? Good sound should definitely be your priority, and no doubt they should have some noise-cancelling and general comfort, too. I doubt that the first thing that’d come to mind would be an in-built respirator, but here we are. The future is now, old man.

Dyson have just revealed their latest (and slightly baffling) technological innovation - the Dyson Zone air-purifying headphones. As well as the main headphone bits, there’s a big ol' visor of sorts attached, which sits in front the user’s mouth and nose, which supposedly delivers a constant stream of fresh air, blocking out any pesky pollutants.

Check out the video below to see exactly how these air-purifying headphones work.

As reported by GameSpot, you definitely couldn’t blame anyone for immediately thinking that the headphones are designed as some kind of Covid prevention device, but they’ve actually been in the works since 2016, with the main aim of combatting dirty city air and all the nasties that come with that. The idea is basically to allow for, as they put it, “purification on the move”.

The visor itself is completely contact free, so it’s not pressing into your face at all - it’s been tested using a purpose-built mannequin with a set of robot lungs. Slightly terrifying, but okay. As for the headphones themselves, as well as promising high-fidelity sound, they also feature advanced noise-cancelling technology (probably even more necessary than usual given there’s going to be air blowing around you at all times).

There’s no doubt that this is a really neat idea, although I don’t imagine most gamers will be rushing out to get them for their gaming setups. They’re not available to buy just yet, either, although they will be some time in the future. I wouldn't expect that they’ll come cheap, but at least they’ll have you covered if the price tag takes your breath away.
