Disney Plus price hike has users threatening to cancel subscription

The Disney Plus price increase hasn't gone down well so far

Like it or not (and I can’t imagine for a second you like it), a price hike is coming for Disney Plus subscribers.

As confirmed by the House of Mouse back in August, Disney Plus’ current ad-free tier will be seeing a fairly hefty price increase of $7.99 per month to $10.99 per month. If you want to keep paying the same price you’re currently paying, you can - as part of a new ad-supported tier. In other words, you’ll either have to shell out more from December 8 or learn to live with adverts on Disney Plus.

As far as we’re aware, the selection of titles available on the streaming service remains unchanged regardless of tier, with the inclusion of ads being the only difference. UK pricing has yet to be confirmed, too, but we can’t imagine we’re getting away without a similar increase.

Anyway, with the price set to go up from December 8, subscribers have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the whole thing.

“Yeah no, I'll just be cancelling,” one user wrote. “We all got in on the streaming wars because it was cheaper than cable, but now both Disney Plus and Hulu are the price of Cable on their own. No thanks.”

“First Netflix and now Disney Plus,” agreed another. “It’s like companies have a competition to see who can lose the most money and potential customers.”

Most agree that all the different subscription services out there have started to add up quickly, with some users suggesting that it might be time to start rotating between them all. If there’s something you want to watch on Netflix one month, for instance, subscribe for that month. Likewise, if Disney is about to drop a new Marvel or Star Wars series, consider waiting until the whole thing has aired and then subscribe for a month so you can binge it. It’s certainly not ideal, but it’s better than nothing.
