Deadpool star Karan Soni cast as Spider-Man in upcoming movie

Deadpool actor Karan Soni has been cast as Spider-Man India in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

There are so many highly-anticipated films on the way this year. There’s John Wick: Chapter 4, The Super Mario Bros Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Fast X, The Flash, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny … I could go on. What I’m trying to say is the year is absolutely stacked with top-tier entertainment but there’s one film many are looking forward to more than most, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Announced back in November 2019, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is, of course, a sequel to 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse. Shameik Moore is returning as Miles Morales in a new caper which is set to take him across the multiverse where he’ll encounter, for lack of a better term, a bunch of Spider-People. This latest casting announcement has now confirmed who one of those Spider-People will be.

Take a look at the trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse below.

As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, actor Karan Soni will star in the film as Pravitr Prabhakar, better known as Spider-Man India. You may know Soni from his role as Dopinder in Deadpool and its sequel, Deadpool 2. We know very little else about Spider-Man India for now but he’s certainly not the only Spidey that Miles will encounter.

Fans have already spotted both Miles Morales and Peter Parker from Insomniac GamesMarvel’s Spider-Man series, plus PS1 Spider-Man is tucked in the trailer too - from the 2001 game.

Perhaps most excitingly, it’s rumoured that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker from the MCU could make an appearance. The film was originally supposed to be released last year but according to insiders, Across the Spider-Verse was pushed back to 2023 so that Holland could be included. It’s thought that Miles will find himself in a ‘live-action’ universe where he then meets the MCU’s Spider-Man. This would also mean that Shameik Moore would be bringing to life his role in a live-action format for the first time. I really hope this is all true.
