It’s been a rough year for Souls fans. Back In January, FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco pulled servers for Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, putting an end to online co-op play.

The move followed a security exploit which allowed hackers to cause lasting damage to your PC. A few months later, the aforementioned games were relisted on Steam as single-player, leading many to fear that co-op play had well and truly gone forever. Good friends, that could soon change.

Have you spotted this Dark Souls easter egg in Elden Ring? Take a look below.

FromSoftware originally teased that co-op play would return after the release of Elden Ring. Given the pop culture behemoth that Elden Ring has become, I’m sure it doesn’t need me to tell you that the game has now been out for three months and yet, Dark Souls’ co-op play has not returned.

For the first time since the servers were deactivated though, FromSoftware have spoken out confirming that teams are working on getting co-op back up and running so don’t worry. It’s not gone forever.

That being said, we still don’t have an exact return date. In a statement provided to PC Gamer, FromSoftware said, “We are currently in the process of restoring the online servers for the Dark Souls series on PC.”

They added, “We plan to restore online service for each game progressively, bringing back servers for Dark Souls 3 once we complete the necessary work to correct the problem. We will provide additional updates as soon as the restoration schedule is finalised. We want to thank all our players for your patience and understanding as we work to fix this issue." This is good news. Let’s be honest, none of us want to get hacked so it’s best that FromSoftware do take their time.
