We all know nothing can possibly last forever, but that doesn't make endings any less heartbreaking when they do come around.

Cyberpunk 2077's journey over the past few years from cautionary tale to one of the finest RPGs ever made has been a joy to watch. Yes, the greatness was always within Cyberpunk 2077, but nobody could possibly argue it was in good shape at launch.

Fast forward to 2024 and Cyberpunk 2077 is a hit, with one huge expansion and a number of incredible updates under its belt. Unfortunately, as we all knew would be the case sooner or the later, our time in Night City draws to a close.

In a recent interview with Game File, Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and Phantom Liberty director Gabe Amatangelo confirmed the focus is now fully on the sequel. The unfortunate upshot of this? Don't expect any more major updates for the current Cyberpunk RPG.

"We're done," Amatangelo told Game File, though he did concede "it's possible that there's some other little thing that comes in here or there." In other words, we can expect the occasional smaller tweak or fix, but the days of chunky updates like entirely new metro systems and overhauled progression are behind Cyberpunk 2077.

He added: "Just because, as you're kind of messing around with stuff, sometimes you discover something that is not a high risk. Or it's easy to integrate. Or, you know, some developers have some bandwidth."

It'll be hard to say goodbye, of course, but I'm hopeful the lessons CD Projekt RED learned from working on Cyberpunk 2077 (both good and bad) will result in a remarkable sequel. Hell, just compare The Witcher 2 with The Witcher 3.

It's worth noting we have no idea when the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 will release, but with everything else CDPR has going on right now, I'd imagine it'll be a lengthy wait. It is, however, a wait I think we're happy to endure.
