Cyberpunk 2077 nudes are flooding the game's subreddit in protest

Cyberpunk 2077 players are flooding the game's subreddit with nudes in protest against Reddit's moderators.

You may want to think twice before opening up the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit today. It’s currently being flooded by nudes as users protest against Reddit.

CD Projekt RED are gearing up for the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty on 26 September. We had the opportunity to go hands-on with Phantom Liberty at Summer Game Fest, writing that it’s “shaping up to be the victory lap that Cyberpunk 2077 deserves”. In the weeks since, we’ve discovered that the expansion will bring back one of the base game’s best characters, and introduce new love interests for V. Cyberpunk 2077 players who don’t purchase the DLC will also still be able to benefit from a ton of improvements and new features. You won’t see any discussion of this on Reddit at the moment though.

Take a look at Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in action below.

As reported by Kotaku, Cyberpunk 2077’s subreddit was recently switched over to NSFW as mods argued that it was a mature game that dealt with nudity and gore - suggesting that should be reflected in the discussion thread. You’d think that’s not really something you can argue with, as it’s true. Reddit mods soon targeted the subreddit though, saying it shouldn’t be NSFW and that its settings should be reverted back.

Reddit isn’t exactly popular right now, following the recent API changes. By making a subreddit NSFW, it blocks ads from appearing - damaging Reddit. So, users of the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit are now flooding it with nude images of in-game characters to protest against Reddit, in support of the NSFW tag.

Mod Tabnam wrote, “According to them, your favourite subreddits going NSFW is too much for you to understand. The infamous Mod Code of Conduct messaged us, demanding we switch back, because ‘you’re likely confused by all the NSFW content you’ve been seeing’. They didn’t allow us to reply, so we couldn’t explain that this is a subreddit for an 18+ game, nor has any of our content changed. This subreddit should have been NSFW already, but we’d never thought to change it until recently.”

“Until we change it back we’re in violation of Reddit’s sitewide rules. We’re not going to change it back, because this is a sexually explicit game, and also f**k them,” they continued. They did later have to add a warning though asking users not to “post outright porn.” Tabnam added, “NSFW content within the context of the game is fine. Want to show us your V’s tits? Go right ahead! Want to go to town on some Borgs with a katana and your dick precariously swinging all over the place? I insist you tag me so I can see it too. But this isn’t the place for outright porn.” So there you have it.
